In a bid to return UTL to sound competitiveness in the telecoms sector, UTL has appointed Mr. Stephen Kaboyo the Managing Director and founder at the Alfa Capital Partner`s as the new board Chairman of Uganda Telecom effective February 3, 2014. The appointment was announced over the week ended February 7, 2014 in Kampala.
Commenting on his new role, Kaboyo who sounded bullish said, “UTL has great potential. We shall need to look at growth areas and continue the massive push for all round improvement in performance as we re-position the company.”
Welcoming Kaboyo to the institution, the CEO UTL, Mr. Ali Amir said, “Stephen is a great addition to the UTL Board. His experience and knowledge of the Ugandan market will be an asset for UTL to leverage on and I look forward to working very closely with him to continue this revival of UTL as a business. On behalf of management, I would like to take this opportunity to also thank Dr. Mbonye the outgoing board chairman for all his efforts and guidance.”
Stephen Kaboyo the new UTL board chairman is a former Central Bank Executive Director in charge of the financial markets and commands a wealth of experience spanning over 20 years in the public sector and currently operates a private practice, Alpha Capital Partners, an indigenous Ugandan firm with interests in sovereign asset management, foreign exchange trading strategies and financial sector advisory.
Trained in the United States, Kaboyo is a graduate of McPherson College, McPherson Kansas, and has undergone extensive professional training in a number of Business schools around the world. He has also served as an intermittent expert for IMF, participating in international missions providing technical assistance in developing financial systems.
